Omar McLeod confident new coach can lead him to World Champs glory

By August 19, 2019

After only two weeks with Rana Reider’s Tumbleweed Track Club, 2017 World Champion, Omar McLeod is confident he is back on track to defend his world title at the 2019 World Championships in Doha, Qatar.

McLeod who has a sub-par season so far won his first race since May at the Birmingham Diamond League on Sunday, a fortnight after parting ways with Tony Ross for Reider’s base in Germany. The time of 13.21 is also his best time since the 13.12 at that meet in Shanghai on May 18.

In between, he had lost four consecutive races, his longest losing streak since he became a professional.

Now with Reider, who also coaches, emerging Jamaican talent Britany Anderson, McLeod believes his chances of repeating as world champion has increased significantly.

“I know me so well that if I’m in the right situation with a coach that knows what he’s doing and has confidence in me and trusts that I can get the job done and I have equal trust in him, then we can do magic, we can win whatever title,” McLeod said on Sunday following his morale-boosting win.

“Winning the world title would mean a huge deal,” he says. “I’m a championship performer, I know exactly what it takes to win a title. I know that if I’m healthy and happy, I’m unstoppable.”
