Molly Rhone to demit office as INF president July 21

Molly Rhone is to demit office as President of the International Netball Federation (INF) on July 21, coinciding with the conclusion of the Vitality Netball World Cup that begins in Liverpool, England on Friday, July 12.

The Jamaican has been President of INF since 2003.

Liz Nicholl, a British sports administrator and former netball player, was elected as the new president at the INF Congress on Wednesday.

“I am thrilled to have been elected as President of the International Netball Federation and would like to thank everyone for their support,” Nicholl said following the election.

“Netball is changing the landscape of female sport and opening new opportunities around the world. With the Vitality Netball World Cup 2019 now just over 48 hours away, together with other initiatives led by the INF, there are many exciting things to come.”

Over the last 40 years, Nicholl, who was born in Wales, has held roles including the CEO of England Netball for 16 years, Championship Director for the 1995 World Netball Championships and having joined UK sport in 1999, most recently as its CEO. During Liz’s career, she has played an integral part in transforming the prospects and achievements of British athletes on the world stage.

“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Liz on her election as president of the INF,” said Clare Briegal, CEO of the International Federation. “Liz is a great advocate for the sport and someone who will lead netball with vision and determination. I look forward to working with her and continuing the great work of the INF”.

    Jamaica’s Sunshine Girlz have been asked to brave the cold of England in January for the inaugural Netball Nations League in 2020. 

    The Sunshine Girlz will find themselves among four teams in the tournament with New Zealand and South Africa joining the hosts from January 19-26.

    According to reports, Australia were also invited but had prior obligations and will not be able to participate.

    The teams are scheduled to play each other in a round-robin format from which the top two teams will make it to the final, while the bottom two play off for third.

    The Jamaicans will be privy to seeing just where they are with the challenge of South Africa on January 19. England will mark the final game of the group stage, on January 25, while the third-place playoff and final will be played on the following day.
